# Metadata

The **Metadata Plot** shows the metadata of the currently open dataset. This makes it useful to know exactly what information is attached to the open dataset/test/race...

You can also use the Metadata Plot within other tooling in Marple Insight like Reports or using [Export image](/docs/marple-insight/user-manuals/analysis/export-image.md). You can show two types of text:

* **Metadata** = dynamically change according to the metadata in your dataset - think: Driver, Track, Airport, Test Name, ...
* **Static Text** = these remain the same, and change according to the Insight project you have open - think: Project, Verification Phase, Main Editor, ...

**Settings**

Accessible via the ⚙️ (settings wheel) in the top-right corner of the plot:

* **Title** – Default is "Metadata Plot"
* **Columns** – Has an "Auto" toggle, or a manual number entry
* **Box** – Show the Metadata Plot in a boxed visual format.
* **Field & Value** – Item-specific settings. From here you can, for example, edit the text on a Static Text entry.
* **Add + buttons** – Add a new row of either Metadata, or Static Text
