# Data connection

Marple Insight visualises data by directly connecting to a team's database. This approach ensures that users can analyse measurements without needing to duplicate or migrate data.

Setting up a connection is simply a matter of providing the necessary credentials and configuration details so that Marple can identify:

* a list of **data sets;**
* within each data set, a **signal list**;
* for a given dataset, signal and time range, **time series data**;
* within time series data, a **segment list.**
 * a segment list is optional, but incredibly powerful in use cases such as motorsport (laps) and flight testing (flight phases) (see [Motorsport Package](/docs/marple-insight/user-manuals/motorsport-package.md) and [Flight Testing Package](/docs/marple-insight/user-manuals/flight-testing-package.md))

We have developed a dynamic system that is designed to work with multiple database types, supporting a variety of use cases.

# Agent Instructions: Querying This Documentation

If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.marpledata.com/docs/marple-insight/setup-and-configuration/data-connection.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
