Organise Data

Make use of the powerful data management features in Marple to organize your data.

You can find all your data in the Library section of Marple. Marple currently supports file servers and Influx Databases.

File Library

As the name suggests, in the file library you can find all your data files. Check File Types to find out what data formats are supported by Marple.

Data can be organised in different folders. Note that you see all files that are in the current folder and all subfolders. By default, one of the columns shows the (sub)directory the file is in.

Create, rename, remove

Folders can be added, renamed or removed using the buttons on top. Moving folders is currently not supported.

File actions

Using the three dots in the file list, you can access the different data organisation options.

  • Rename: Rename the file

  • Move: Move the file to another folder

  • Delete: Delete the file permanently (admin only)

  • Re-import: Re-import the file in Marple (admin only)

  • Download: Download the original data file

  • Edit metadata: Edit the metadata of the file

These actions are also available as batch actions across multiple data sets. Select multiple data sets, and at the bottom, you can choose More Actions.

Influx Data

All info about how to set up and organise data from Influx can be found in this section: Influx DB

Open data for visualisation & analysis

Once you have found and selected your data, you can either open the data set in the visualisation window (data exploration) or in the analysis window (data mining).

Metadata

A powerful way to organise your data is by using metadata (often called tags). When you click on a data set you can see all the details about the file on the bottom left. If you added metadata to your data set, it should be visible here. Using the edit button you can add extra metadata.

Adding metadata

You can add or change metadata in 2 ways:

  • During upload & import of the data

  • Edit the metadata in the library

When editing the metadata, the following modal pops up where you can see all possible metadata options.

Metadata can also be updated across multiple files at the same time.

Metadata fields

If you are the admin of a workspace, you can add and change the meta fields in your workspace via settings > metadata.

Primary vs dynamic metadata

Some metadata fields are fixed, every data set needs to have them. These fields are indicated with the blue star. Admins of your workspace can set certain metadata fields to be primary.

Other metadata fields will only show if they are present in the current data selection. This is very useful when there is data from various sources or various test types in Marple.

Data from an is organised similarly to a file server. Marple makes use of 'snapshots', which are segments of data from the database that can be organised.
